If you don't know by now, in the moving industry there have been so many developments in the way we can move our house contents and for that matter anything we need to move. I'm specifically talking about portable moving pod and storage. These things have made such a huge difference in not only convenience because of the amount of time you can take to pack it but also as a cost saver compared to traditional movers.
But, if you never had to use one yet and are considering the option, but not sure about any kind of container placement specifications or regulations that your township may impose then hopefully some of these answers to the questions that I encountered when I rented a portable storage container may help you as well.
One of the questions that I asked a company, and most companies work the same so go with who offers you the best rate for the time you need to move, is , and don't laugh at this one, is where will you be placing the container? And they said that if I live in a house the obvious place is my driveway. You want to place the container where you have easy access for you pack and unload your stuff. They are also stable enough to be positioned on any reasonably level surface on private property.
Most portable storage containers come in about the same size, there are a few larger ones but we went with the size of 5x7x8 and it was perfect. This was about accurate from a few places that I looked into. This one actually can be placed where ever you can park a car. We were remodeling our family room and kitchen so I needed to place furniture and kitchen ware some place safe and clean other than the war zone my garage turned into from all the remodeling.
Are you concerned if the portable storage container can be left outside for a long period of time without ruining your furniture or other delicates? The container door latches in three places for a tight seal and the storage container is covered with weather-resistant vinyl so water, condensation, mold and mildew build-up, and the floor is raised 4 inches off the ground to allow water to pass under it or doesn't leak into it, so you'll be okay.
I found this system to work best for us because I didn't have to rent a moving truck and put my furniture and stuff into storage just to have to do it all over again. The portable container stayed at my house the entire few weeks that I needed it for and best of all I was able to access the container whenever I wanted because I had the only Key to the pad lock.
